President Donald Trump addressed nationwide election results while speaking on FOX News as early race calls unfolded on election night. The Associated Press and FOX News projected that Democrats would secure majorities in both the House and the Senate. The live reaction came as federal midterm tallies pointed to significant shifts in congressional leadership.
Reacting to the projected outcomes, Trump pointed specifically to the loss suffered by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. Trump stated that Abbott’s defeat stemmed directly from what he characterized as a departure from his conservative political base during his campaign.
Trump criticized Abbott’s recent strategy, claiming, "If Greg Abbott, the Governor of Texas, hadn’t become a RINO in the last six months of his Political Life, he wouldn’t have lost. He went back to his original formula, and it wasn’t pretty!"
