Who Is Avery Carrington Really? Why His Own Student Killed And Ate Him [GTA Lore Explained]

Who is Avery Carrington, really? To most players he's the loud Texan in the cowboy hat who handed Tommy Vercetti a few dirty jobs and the most hated RC helicopter mission in GTA history. But look closer and his story stretches across three games, twelve years and two cities. It touches nearly every land grab in the 3D universe.

In this investigation, we open the case file on Vice City's most mysterious real estate tycoon. We go through his police file, his radio ads, his business methods and the email he never thought anyone would read. Along the way we test three theories. Was Avery a self-made cowboy, a kingmaker who raised two of the richest men in the series, or just a man in a wig hiding behind a hat and other people's hands?

We'll look at how real 80s Miami shaped a character like him, what Rockstar's early files reveal about where he came from, why one lesson he gave in 1986 echoes word for word in GTA III, and what really happened when his business brought him to Liberty City in 1998. We'll also go behind the scenes with his voice actor, Burt Reynolds, and the story of why Rockstar stopped hiring big celebrity voices.

Some clues have been hiding in plain sight for over twenty years. By the end of this video, you'll never hear one of Tommy's phone calls the same way again.
