Danzig is an American doom and heavy metal band founded by former Misfits frontman Glenn Danzig. When in 1983 the Misfits - a hardcore punk band dating from 1977 - broke up after having released 2 albums, Glenn Danzig decided to go his own way and thus switched from the punk genre to metal. The band Samhain, founded by him at the time, made a completely different sound than his former punk band. In 1986, at the insistence of producer Rick Rubin and because of minor adjustments in the line-up, the 'occult' metal formation Danzig was born. The band turned out to be a dovecote because Danzig often changed its line-up over the years. For example, Joey Castillo (Queens Of The Stone Age) sat on the drum stool for years and just about every metal and rock guitarist who matters played in Danzig for a few months. In 2010 a new album was released for the first time in years, entitled 'Deth Red Sabaoth'. Glenn and his current band go back to the somewhat darker and occult Danzig past. Glenn not only plays bass, guitar and a number of drums on this ninth album, he also produced it. The current line up also consists of Tommy Victor on guitar, Steve Zing on bass guitar and backing vocals and Johnny Kelly on drums and percussion.
