I Installed Linux on a Graphics Card?!

This $30 board looks like a GPU, but it has a laptop CPU, RAM, storage connectors, and USB ports. It turns out the IC847 PLUS was built to control a cryptocurrency mining rig. Now I want to see what it can do as a PC.

I install Loc-OS, a lightweight Linux distro, on its SSD and put this graphics-card-shaped machine through everyday use. LibreWolf handles web browsing and 1080p YouTube, while LibreOffice and GIMP run smoothly. Then I set up Prism Launcher and try Minecraft 1.8.9—with results that surprised me.

There are a few bumps along the way: getting Bluetooth audio working takes some setup, and my attempt to upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 8GB leaves the machine unable to boot with the new stick.

So is Loc OS a good match for this unusual GPU-shaped PC? Watch the real tests and decide for yourself. If you’d like to see me build a proper case for it in part two, let me know in the comments!
