Driver 1 is now in ReDriver 2 Extended! (Showcase & Gameplay)

reDriver 2 Extended 0.3.1 brings Driver 1 much further into Driver 2.

The four main cities from the original Driver (San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami and New York) can now be installed and played directly inside reDriver 2 Extended, alongside Chicago, Havana, Las Vegas and Rio.

That means all eight major cities from the first two Driver games can now exist inside the same project, with the added bonus of being able to get out of the car and explore the Driver 1 cities on foot for the first time.

In this video, I showcase each city, including bird’s-eye free-camera views that make it much easier to appreciate their actual scale without the original PlayStation draw-distance limitations.

The integration is still experimental, so there are expected glitches, including holes in the environment, geometry issues and traffic behaviour that is not always correct yet.

I also look at why bringing Driver 1 into the Driver 2 engine is not as simple as loading the old maps, with differences in physics, scaling and hard-coded behaviour that all need to be adapted.

Finally, I briefly cover another REDRIVER2-based project, Redriver ReExtended, which has already experimented with bringing some Driver 1 story missions into the Driver 2 engine. It shows that a more complete Driver 1 + Driver 2 experience may be possible in the future.

As always, you need your own original Driver 1 and Driver 2 game files.
