The Moon is coming closer, starting October 26.
The Moon's path around us is not a perfect circle. Its distance swings between about 226,000 and 253,000 miles. On October 26, 2026, the full Moon will be just 229,207 miles away, almost 10,000 miles closer than average. A full Moon this close is often called a supermoon: it can look up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than the farthest one.
Even closer full Moons follow on November 24 and December 24.
Note: some lists count only the November and December full Moons as supermoons.
