Three prayers. One voice.
Above an endless sea of clouds, three lands pray to three different names. The white land waits for its Messiah. The red land feeds fire to the Adversary. The far land kneels before its stone idols. My mother said only one of them was ever heard.
When Eli is chosen as the Court's offering, three bells begin to toll. The first marks him. The second steals his memories. The third will take everything. His sister Mara, who once served the Court that took their mother, must decide what she believes before the last bell rings. Along the way they are joined by Korr, a warrior who should be their enemy, and Orin, an old man who knew their mother.
But the bells are not the only thing calling. Ishtar, the Morning Star, offers Mara the power to make them all kneel, and in a golden hall far above, a fallen angel speaks patiently to his Father.
