How did Bulgaria lose Macedonia just months after getting it? 🇧🇬🇲🇰
In March 1878 the Treaty of San Stefano created a huge Bulgaria stretching from the Danube to the Aegean, including almost all of Macedonia. Months later the Congress of Berlin cut it into three, and Macedonia went back to the Ottoman Empire. After the Balkan Wars (1912–1913), the Treaty of Bucharest split Macedonia between Greece, Serbia and Bulgaria. Serbia's part became today's North Macedonia, and the debate over the region's history and language is still not settled.
