He Kept a Kitten Warm. She Still Sleeps Beside Him.

Four years ago, Basil left his dry sleeping mat to shelter a tiny kitten from the rain.
That night, Sable fell asleep against his chest.
Now she is grown, and he moves more slowly, but that familiar place is still hers.

When Arthur finds the pair on his porch, he carries the kitten indoors, with Basil following close behind. Warm and dry beside the fireplace, Sable chooses the dog's side for her first night's sleep.

Ordinary days follow: a wagging tail to chase, leaves moving across a sunny courtyard, and somewhere familiar to return to.

Four years later, Sable has windows to watch and a porch bench of her own. Ten-year-old Basil takes longer over his walks and needs a little more time to settle onto his mat.

One evening, Sable hears him stir. Without Arthur calling her, she climbs down from the window, touches noses with Basil, and curls up beside his chest again.

Arthur watches quietly as they fall asleep.

A gentle story from Three Quarter Town about growing up, growing older, and the small places beside someone that never stop feeling like home.
