The Muro Box is an attempt at answering a relatively philosophical question: is a music box a musical instrument? It’s a device that plays music and has a distinct tone and voice of its own, but you can’t really play it like a piano or a guitar. You merely wind it up and let it go, having it perform whatever premade tune it was given in life.
The Muro Box is a bit different. It’s a music box you can hook a keyboard up to and play. But it’s also a whole lot more.
In this video, I take a deep dive into this fascinatingly unique little wonder: its origins, its uses, how it works, and whether a reinvention of a centuries-old mechanical item like this has a place in today’s modern, digital landscape.
Meet the Muro Box. I hope you enjoy.
