The Be Good Tanyas - Waiting Around To Die [фолк]

The Be Good Tanyas' Waiting Around to Die is a haunting interpretation of Townes Van Zandt's classic country folk song, telling the story of a troubled life shaped by poverty, heartbreak, addiction and imprisonment. The song follows a narrator who drifts from one misfortune to another, eventually finding companionship in a substance called codeine. The Be Good Tanyas bring a particularly intimate quality to the material, with Frazey Ford's distinctive, fragile sounding vocal giving the bleak lyrics a sense of weary resignation.

Originally written and recorded by Townes Van Zandt for his 1968 debut album For the Sake of the Song, Waiting Around to Die became one of his most celebrated compositions. Its unflinching portrayal of despair and self destruction helped establish the deeply personal storytelling that would define much of Van Zandt's songwriting.

The Vancouver based folk trio, consisting of Frazey Ford, Trish Klein and Samantha Parton, became known for their atmospheric blend of traditional folk, old time country, blues and Americana. Their interpretation of Waiting Around to Die has become one of the group's most recognizable recordings, introducing Townes Van Zandt's songwriting to another generation of listeners.

The Be Good Tanyas' version also reached a wider audience through its use in the television series Breaking Bad, appearing in the second season episode Bit by a Dead Bee. Its unsettling atmosphere has made the recording particularly memorable beyond the folk and Americana scene.
