Politicians can cherry-pick economic data to justify their preferred policies — or bolster their case for re-election. Don’t want to talk about interest rates? Talk about the unemployment numbers. Prefer to avoid discussing job data? The Dow is over 50,000!
With that in mind, your co-authors — a journalist and an economist — took a road trip across the United States last month to see how people felt about the one economic indicator they can’t avoid because there are gigantic billboards showing it every few miles: Fuel prices.
