Left 4 Dead 2 Custom Campaign: The Heavenly Tower

So, while trying out some “Vanilla-Styled” mods, I stumbled upon this custom campaign. And well, I should’ve known I was in for something when I saw it was made by ChimiChamo. This map is inspired by Battle Cats, an old phone game, and its mapset called the “Heavenly Tower,” hence the name of the campaign—even though this tower wasn’t heavenly at all. So, with that being said, here are my thoughts on The Heavenly Tower:

*Aesthetics:*
(+) Custom survivor conversations throughout, especially for this kind of campaign
(+) This gives off Japanese aesthetics, probably because this is based on Battle Cats, which happens to be a Japanese game
(+) I do like the weather changes, even though they are barely noticeable
(/) There really isn’t anything special when it comes to details, as it’s mostly the same with some minor changes on each level

*Gameplay:*
(+) Really unique gameplay as you progress up a tower, and it gets harder the higher you go
(+) Each floor is unique, which keeps this map from getting boring and stale
(+) The custom Specials are really well done, and I can tell they are inspired by Battle Cats, as the enemies in that game have different variants just like the custom Specials here do
(/) Now, as cool as the custom Specials are, I feel the instantly startled Witches are overpowered… I don’t need to explain this, do I?
(/) I also feel items are a bit scarce; there should be more of them, especially on the higher floors
(/) No melee weapons, which is kind of annoying; this is neutral since this was on purpose to add to the challenge
(-) I didn’t like that one round where four Witches are instantly startled and go after you. We almost got wiped, with Rochelle and Coach getting killed and Nick freezing like a deer in headlights. I had to resort to Admin Cheats to defib Rochelle and Coach since I knew this would be impossible with just Nick and myself

*Finale? (Boss):*
(+) I’m not sure if you can consider this the finale, but regardless, it’s a very unique and well-scripted boss fight
(+) I do like how The Snail, or whatever the hell that thing is, has a health bar to show progression instead of just blindly guessing
(+) The Snail’s attacks make sense and are manageable
(+) I also like how the custom Specials are included in the boss fight
(+) The custom music for the boss fight is epic and really fits the fight
(/) Now, even though I just said The Snail’s attacks are manageable, the one with the explosions didn’t make sense to me and was hard to avoid
(/) The bots aren’t completely useless, as they protected me from the zombies, but they aren’t really helpful since they won’t shoot The Snail, avoid the attacks, or trigger the final attack unless you force them to with Left 4 Bots 2. I tried to, and that didn’t go so well...
(/) There is no escape sequence, but is one even warranted here?

So yeah, this was another good map from ChimiChamo and probably one of their best ones, right behind 4 Sided Coin. Sure, this map isn’t meant to be played solo with bots, and it does have some things that had me asking questions, but this is still a good map. I wouldn’t say top-tier since I’ve definitely played better, but that doesn't take away from how unique this one is. So, if you love Battle Cats and want a unique experience, check this map out. Just bring a full team of humans or be ready to have Admin Cheats on speed dial.

*Final Rating: A-*

Now, before I go and get into the cringy YouTube stuff, I'm still working on that horror modpack you saw in the previous video. Again, I'll make another video when it's "done." Oh, and like I said earlier, I was messing around with Vanilla-Style mods and decided to just roll with them for this video, hence why a lot of stuff isn't modded like it usually is.
