Every Version of Liberty City Explained In Detail

Every version of Liberty City, explained in detail. Rockstar's New York, rebuilt in every era of GTA from the top-down grid of 1997, to the 3D city of GTA 3, to the prequels in Liberty City Stories and GTA Advance, all the way to the HD Liberty City of GTA 4. The most rebuilt city in the whole series, and the one Rockstar has never gone back to since 2008.

The first Liberty City (GTA 1, 1997)
The 3D Liberty City (GTA 3, 2001)
The prequels (Liberty City Stories & GTA Advance)
The HD Liberty City (GTA 4, 2008)
10:35 Why Rockstar never came back

We break down every version of Liberty City and how it evolved: the forgotten 1997 original, the three islands of GTA 3 that invented the modern open world, the 1998 prequel Liberty City Stories and the Fort Staunton bombing, the obscure GTA Advance, and the HD Liberty City of GTA 4 with its boroughs, Niko Bellic, and the two episodes. The 3D era vs HD era split, the real New York behind it all, and why Rockstar hasn't returned to Liberty City in almost 20 years.
