Agnes Obel, the Danish-born, Berlin-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer, returns with her highly anticipated new album, 'The Meaning of Flowers'.

Following the release of Myopia in 2020, this new album was written, recorded, arranged and produced entirely in Obel’s Berlin studio. Across 12 atmospheric, genre-defying tracks, The Meaning of Flowers captures a period of profound personal and creative transformation.

Inspired by the birth of her first child, Obel explores themes of natality, interconnectedness and metamorphosis, reflecting on how new life reshapes the body, the mind and one’s relationship to the wider world.

Her new music draws on a broad range of sources, from the poetry of Enheduanna (the world’s first named author) and the ideas of philosophers Hannah Arendt and Emanuele Coccia, to the Danish pop scene of the 80s and 90s.

‘Laymelli’ Lyrics:

Did your mind crawl out of the sand?
Did your ways make you wise?
Do your eyes see what I am not
To become another life?
Does your life go on, Layman?
DOAUY
Do you know what I am not?
DOAUY

Here I am now all in my body core
Here I am now all blowing away
We’re heading all my way
I’ll lead your soul
I know the way
Oh no no no
Here I am now, ohh, you remember all
Here I am now, ohh, blowing away

Did your eyes go dark in the sand?
I can’t tell if you’re alive
I am sure there is more in the mud
To become another life
Do your eyes go on, Layman?
DOAUY

Here I am now, ohh, you remember all
Here I am now, ohh, blowing away

Meet you as a creature who is locked into a reason.
Would you see the same, oh never, as waiting for deliverance?
Nothing is the same when you will go on through it all again.
Oh nothing is the same again.

Meet you as a creature who is locked into a reason.
Would you see the same, oh never, as waiting for deliverance?
Nothing is the same when you will go on through it all again.
Oh nothing is the same again.

Oh we are, I am not. We are, I am not. Oh we are, I am not.
The way you know. The way we grow. The way you know. The way we grow.
We are leaving too. We are leaving too. We are leaving too. We are leaving too.
