"WE SHALL HEAR FROM THE FRIENDS OF THE COURT,"
Senate Impeachment Court Presiding Officer Francis "Chiz" Escudero presents the "amici curiae" (friends of the court), during the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
The "amici curiae", composed of retired chief justice Artemio V. Panganiban, retired chief justice Reynato S. Puno, retired Supreme Court associate justice Adolf S. Azcuna, and retired chief justice Hilario Davide, will present their oral arguments on the matter of the proper interpretation of the trial's conviction threshold, or the number of votes required to convict a public official.
According to Article XI, Section 3-6 of the 1987 Constitution, two-thirds of the members of the Senate are required for a public official to be convicted. (Video courtesy of Senate of the Philippines)
