This Old Racing Game Looks Better Than Any DLSS5 Video - SEGA Rally Revo

The YouTube title is pure spite and I'm not hiding it. I do not like DLSS5, both from a technical standpoint and even moral standpoint. What previous versions of Nvidia's DLSS were supposed to be just a framegen/resolution upscaler, their latest version as of uploading this video, called DLSS5, has become a glorified Gen AI Instagram filter, that IMHO, makes almost all games look worse, with a drastic performance penalty to boot.

And in the slim chance when the game looks halfway decent when using it, it's still not worth the performance penalty... even in older games, and I'd argue it ruins the original aesthetic of the game it is used on. Which let's me segue into my biggest pet peeve. Ever since DLSS5 has been made open sourced and available to use freely in any game and GPU (even older Nvidia GPUs or even AMD cards), I've been seeing tons of videos popping in my recommendations of older games using DLSS5, most of them looking worse than the Vanilla game, yet I see them getting so many views and so many comments saying "This is the future of gaming". And I'm left here baffled, thinking it looks like an Unreal Engine 5 asset flip, yet most people are clapping like seals at the results.

It's not like I can't use DLSS5 myself, I have an RTX 5080, I can probably churn out videos on any game I please using DLSS5, just to rake in those sweet YouTube views... but I don't operate my channel like that. Instead, I've opted to use a different approach, even if it'll probably garner me some unwanted attention and will probably brand me as a "luddite". Why not showcase older games I deem genuinely amazing looking for their time while taking a shot at this newfangled GPU technology that shallow people (or sellouts) are praising now. I don't think it will work out well... but it's worth a shot.

So I'll start with a game I actually played rather recently called SEGA Rally Revo. It's a simple arcade racer at itss core, but I'll be damned, the visuals and terrain deformation make this game quite a looker and it came out all the way back in 2007.

Now I'll make this clear, I'm playing the Xbox 360 version emulated via Xenia Edge. I am well aware a PC version of SEGA Rally Revo exists, but the terrain deformation is severely neutered, as well as missing motion blur and volumetric fog effects. With a couple of tweaks, I think this method is the definitive way to play SEGA Rally Revo in the modern day.
