This is an extraordinarily dramatic video montage.

I recently found a VHS tape in storage labeled only “NYPD 9‑11,” and I’m not entirely sure how it came into my possession. What is clear is that it deserves to be shared so those who were alive and old enough to remember that day never forget the terror, the heroism, and the overwhelming emotions that followed. And for those too young to remember, this was not Hollywood — it was real life, real people thrust into a nightmare.

The attacks on September 11, 2001 claimed 2,977 lives, including 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 NYPD officers, and 37 Port Authority police officers. More than 25,000 people were injured, and in the years since, tens of thousands of responders and survivors have developed illnesses linked to the toxic dust and debris.

The tape opens with the planes striking the towers and the first responders racing toward the scene.
Around the eight‑minute mark, you see people on the upper floors desperately signaling for help — among the over 1,000 individuals trapped above the impact zones.
At about nine minutes, the first tower collapses, turning day into night as ash blankets everything. Near the end, the police commissioner and the mayor react to the unfolding catastrophe.
