I Built My Own Linux Phone — And You Can Too

I built my own Linux phone using Android.

In this video, I’m running Linux on my Samsung S23 with the Phosh mobile interface. It can run Linux apps, use a proper terminal, install apps from Flathub, run VS Code, play SuperTuxKart at around 60 FPS with hardware acceleration, and still launch normal Android apps like the camera and gallery.

The idea is simple: Android handles the phone hardware, while Linux gives me the desktop apps, terminal, tools, and control I want.

This setup uses an Ubuntu root filesystem inside chroot, so your phone needs to be rooted. I also built a native Android app that configures most of the setup automatically, so you don’t have to manually type a long list of commands.
