I never used to like martinis which was a source of disappointment - because I feel like it's something I should enjoy. Sophisticated people drink martinis. James Bond drinks martinis. Cool women in movies drink martinis. I want to be like them!
But try as I might, I couldn't pretend I liked them and I sadly accepted the reality that I was never going to make it as a Bond girl 😩
But then someone introduced me to Dirty Martinis! Turns out, all my martini needed was a splash of olive brine. It takes the sharp edge off the gin and adds a savoury, salty hit that makes the whole thing dangerously drinkable.
Sadly, I don't think drinking martinis is the only qualification I need to make it as a Bond girl. But hey, everyone has to start somewhere, right?? 😅 - Nagi x

DIRTY MARTINI
75 ml (2 1/2 oz) clean dry gin*
15 ml (1/2 oz) dry vermouth - Noilly Prat Original and Dolin Dry are classics
15 – 30 ml (1/2 – 1 oz) brine from green olive jar
3 green olives, skewered (classic green ones stuffed with red capsicum)
2 cups ice
1. Fill a jug with the ice then add the gin, vermouth and brine (start with 15 ml). Use a bar spoon or table knife to stir vigorously in circles for 30 seconds. Have a quick taste, add a smidge more brine if you want (I usually want!). Then immediately strain into chilled martini glass.
2. Garnish with 3 olives skewered onto a cocktail pick and enjoy!
* Gin classic choices: Tanqueray, BeefEater, Bombay Sapphire. I use Tanquery No 10, Four Pillars Olive Leaf Gin, and Roku Gin
