Haruomi Hosono (born 1947) is a Japanese musician, singer, songwriter and record producer considered one of the most influential musicians in Japanese pop music history, and credited with inspiring genres such as city pop and Shibuya-kei. Also a co-founder and leader of Yellow Magic Orchestra.
花に水 (Watering a flower) is a rare 1984 cassette that contains 2 tracks originally commissioned by a consumer goods shop Muji as shop background music. Bobbing, hypnotic, peaceful, melodic synth lines, the idyllic synth mantras of “Talking”, and melancholic atonal sequences of “Growth”.
"In September 1983, for no reason, all I wanted to do was to play music that just "talked" and had a discursive quality to it. I didn't know anything baout fractals and with no particular ideology, I just decided to record this "talking". So I don't say I created, I just recorded. Ever since this experience, I have been very intrigued by the songwriting process of immediately recording without thinking as soon as I sit in front of an instrument or computer." /Hosono
