Baltimore police investigate possible hate crime in Fells Point

Baltimore police said they are investigating a possible hate crime in Fells Point.

Business owners in the area reported that someone drove through the streets of Fells Point, tossing the bags from a car. The bags contained a message that read,

"Teen takeovers should result in teen chain gangs: try to spit in our faces," which is possibly a reference to teen gatherings.

A business owner, who asked to remain anonymous, described the incident as disturbing and said they immediately contacted police upon discovering the bags.

"This is not the first time it's happened in Baltimore. It's happened in other neighborhoods so this is, it must be a group in the vicinity and came through and decided what they see on the news about different gatherings decided to impose their craziness on us," the business owner said.

The plastic packages were found Saturday morning along Thames Street and Broadway. Business owners said they took action by picking up the bags, disposing of them, and calling the police.

Visitors to Fells Point shared their reactions to the incident. "It makes me sad. I'm thinking about my kids and their future. It makes me upset," visitor Brian Campbell said.
