Your kids may not want to think about back-to-school shopping, but the state of Maryland does. The comptroller announced Thursday that Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week starts Aug. 9 and runs through Aug. 15. Clothes and shoes that cost $100 or less are eligible. The first $40 of a backpack is tax exempt while any amount beyond $40 is taxable. Businesses can issue coupons to help lower the price of some of items, but manufacturer's coupons cannot be used to get the tax-free price.
