Baltimore towing bill would cap fees and ban patrol towing after complaints

A Baltimore City councilmember has introduced a bill that addresses some towing practices in private lots and facilities. It's partly focused on addressing "patrol towing", fees, and payment. About a month ago, Baltimore resident Alex Trick says he parked in an open lot in the city to get dinner. "We parked there and after dinner we came back and the car was completely gone," Trick said. The next day, when retrieving his car, he was charged $375. "They charged us $375 just to get the car," he said. "It's going to be $350 and it'll be $50 more for every day that you don't pick it up." Trick also described seeing tow trucks circling that lot a day later. "People were celebrating Pride and they saw this convenient lot they could park in, and we saw tow trucks just circling the lot, just picking people off," he said. On Monday evening, Councilman Ryan Dorsey introduced a bill that addresses some private towing practices in the city.
