Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Download the OpenShell executable and run the installer; ensure you have administrator rights.
- Upon the first launch, select your preferred style (Windows 7 style is generally recommended for the best experience).
- (Optional) Check "Replace Start Button" if you want to use a classic or custom icon instead of the Windows 11 logo.
- To customize the look, go to the "Skin" tab. The "Immersive" skin matches Windows 11 best, while "Midnight" offers a sleek dark mode.
- If you want to change what appears on the right side of the menu (like "Documents" or "Run"), go to the "Customize Start Menu" tab.
- To add classic tools to your folders, open "Classic Explorer Settings" and enable the toolbar. You can drag and drop new buttons like "Rename" or "Delete" into this bar for quick access.
- Pro Tip: Use the "Backup" button at the bottom of the settings menu to save your configuration as an XML file. This is great for moving your settings to a new PC.
- If a setting (like taskbar transparency) doesn't seem to change in Windows 11, it is likely due to OS-level restrictions.
- To revert to the original Windows menu at any time, simply click the "Windows Start Menu" link at the very top of your new OpenShell menu.
