President Mahama joins clean-up in Alajo, descends into gutters with shovel on National Sanitation Day


President John Dramani Mahama marked National Sanitation Day by joining residents in Alajo for a massive clean-up exercise.

In a show of leadership by example, the President went down into the Alajo gutters with a shovel to help desilt drains and clear choked gutters. He was joined by government officials, assembly members, and community volunteers.

Speaking after the exercise, President Mahama stressed the need for citizens to take responsibility for their environment, enforce sanitation bye-laws, and prevent flooding in Accra and other urban areas. He also called for regular desilting, better waste management, and public education on proper waste disposal.

The National Sanitation Day exercise forms part of government’s efforts to promote a cleaner Ghana and reduce the impact of flooding and disease.
