Ron Singer, owner of Leon's Backroom, dies

A staple of the LGBTQIA+ community in Baltimore has died. Ron Singer, the owner of the city's oldest gay bar, Leon's Backroom, died this week, according to an announcement by the bar on social media. Leon's has been operating since the 1930s and Singer owned it for the last 20 years. WBAL-TV 11 News last spoke to Singer at his annual Thanksgiving dinner, which he hosted at Leon's for anyone without a place to go for the holiday to enjoy a free meal. Singer's funeral takes place Friday.
