DHS addresses policy regulating pools at foster homes

Le'zus Paige-Brooks, 2, drowned Saturday in a pool at the home of his foster care parents in Brooklyn Park, Anne Arundel County police confirmed to WBAL-TV 11 News Investigates. The Maryland Department of Human Services told WBAL-TV 11 News Investigates that the agency cannot comment on a specific case, but according to state law, if DHS receives a complaint that a foster parent may have violated regulations or policies, it is required to investigate and take action, if necessary. As far as policies in place for above-ground pools at foster homes, state law mandates that the pools need to be 4 feet above the ground at all points, and all doors and gates that access the pool must have locks. If there is a deck area with a door, the door must be locked when the pool is not in use.
