A Micro Blue Moon Is Coming. It Won't Return Until 2053.

A Micro Blue Moon is coming on May 31, 2026 — and it's the smallest full moon of the entire year. Here's what it is, why it's rare, and exactly when to watch.

On the night of May 30–31, 2026, the Moon will rise as a Micro Blue Moon — a rare combination of two events happening at once. It's a "Blue Moon" because it's the second full moon in a single calendar month (the first was the Flower Moon on May 1). And it's a "Micromoon" because the Moon will be at apogee — its farthest point from Earth for all of 2026.

But here's the part most people get wrong: it won't actually look blue. And despite the excitement, it'll be the SMALLEST full moon of the year — about 7% smaller than an average full moon and up to 14% smaller than a supermoon.
