Bill introduced by City Council targets problematic smoke shops

On Monday, a bill was introduced at Baltimore City Council aimed at addressing problematic smoke shops and holding them accountable for violations. "This legislation tonight would add smoke shops to the public nuisance code and enable, after two violations, for there to be a hearing in front of the consumer protection board," said Baltimore City Council President Zeke Cohen. "If that board seems fit, they would enable the police department or ATCC to padlock and shut down a smoke shop," he said. Cohen and Councilmember Antonio Glover are the two lead sponsors of the bill. Glover highlighted the issue. "Smoke shops that are getting raided, that are getting hit due to illegal activities going on in those communities, those smoke shops are opening up the very next day. So it's our job as a council to make sure we're holding these smoke shops accountable," he said.
