A look at 100 games that were released in the year 2006! In 10 concise minutes

Another great year for gaming! The XBox 360, PSP, and Nintendo DS had released the year before - and we were starting to see the first batch of post-launch titles as those systems asserted their strengths. In addition to that, we saw the launch of two major consoles - Sony's PS3 and Nintendo's Wii - leading to a bumper crop of launch titles. And of course, the PS2 and the PC were still going strong...

This year saw additional entries in the Super Mario Bros, Zelda and Pokemon series, making Nintendo fans happy. We also received new Final Fantasy and Guitar Hero entries on the PS2, while the PSP received its own Grand Theft Auto chapter, in the form of Vice City Stories. The Tomb Raider series received its remarkable rebirth in the form of Tomb Raider Legends, and the Lego series received its Star Wars second entry, showing that it was a Force to be reckoned with. While it wasn't the full-on sequel that everybody wanted, Half Life 2: Episode 1 still attracted its share of fans. Agent 47 returned in Hitman: Blood Money, and of course The Elder Scrolls made its next gen debut with Oblivion.

This year also saw the trend of shrinking down established home console franchises for their portable cousins, with titles such as Daxter, Metal Gear and Killzone landing on the PSP, while the DS received entries in the Metroid Prime and Resident Evil series.

PC strategy fans had a glorious buffet with titles like Rise of Legends, Dawn of War: Dark Crusade and another entry in the Total War series.

2006 also saw the launch of several franchises: series such as Just Cause, Gears of War, Company of Heroes, Dead Rising, and Saints Row all started here...

All in all, another absolutely amazing year for gaming!
