These iPad Toys Shouldn’t Work Anymore… But They Do

These iPad toys weren’t supposed to work anymore.
The apps they rely on have been removed from the App Store for years…
but on an old iPad 4 running iOS 6, I managed to bring them back.

In this video, I revisit two forgotten interactive toy lines:

Fruit Ninja Apptivity Sensei (Mattel)
Cars 2 AppMates (Spin Master)

Both were designed to physically interact with the iPad screen—no Bluetooth, no batteries—just touch. But with their original apps long gone, they’ve basically become unusable… until now.

After digging through my old purchase history and restoring legacy 32-bit apps, I tested whether these toys could still function the way they were originally intended.

And surprisingly… they do.

From unlocking hidden game modes in Fruit Ninja HD to fully exploring Radiator Springs in the Cars 2 AppMates game, this is a look at a unique piece of mobile gaming history that most people have completely forgotten.

This video is part of my ongoing project to turn the iPad 4 into the ultimate retro mobile gaming device—and to preserve some of these forgotten ideas before they’re lost completely.
