The Southern Electric Traction Group and The Bluebell Railway warmly welcome you aboard the last
surviving 4VEP, No. 3417. Since we can’t yet invite passengers on a mainline journey, instead we
would like you to join us live on Youtube to enjoy the journey as we travel from Strawberry Hill
Depot to East Grinstead to attend the Bluebell Railway’s 2024 Diesel Gala.
Our camera, mounted inside Driving Trailer coach No.76262 and provided by our partners High Viz Media (Group) ltd, will stream a live feed* as our unit makes its way through the suburbs of London and out into leafy East Sussex.
Over the last 10 years the SETG have been restoring this unique train, the last of 197 built. You’ll be watching from one of our First Class Compartments, this one being especially important to us since it’s dedicated to our friend Margaret Abrahams. Margaret, along with her daughter Lynn and son Douglas, invested more than 4 years of effort into restoring the passenger accommodation of 3417. Sadly Margaret passed away in June 2022 – we loved her, we miss her and her name will always be
associated with 3417.
After a decade of work, once again 3417 is be able to do what it was built to do – carry passengers.
Join us as we turn the clock back 20 years to a time when slamdoor trains ruled the rails!
