Slovakia and Hungary have decided to halt diesel exports to Ukraine after Slovakia has declared a state of emergency in the energy sector. The two governments argue that because they are not receiving oil through the Druzhba pipeline which was damaged on the 27th of January, they had to tap into their strategic oil reserves. Reports coming from Ukraine suggest that they don’t believe this to be a major event, as it is unlikely to affect the prices at filling stations. Friedrich Merz has stated that he thinks it’s unlikely for the Ukraine war to end at the negotiating table. He then added that this war will probably end when one of the two sides will be economically or militarily exhausted. Merz has also stated that the goal of the European efforts should be to ensure that Russia cannot continue to wage war. Axios has reported that the US is close to a full scale war with Iran.
