China’s Foreign Trade Hits New High as Markets Pivot Away from US Toward Europe and ASEAN

Marc Ostwald, Chief Economist and Global Strategist at ADM ISI, spoke to CGTN Europe about China’s record-high foreign trade performance. He says the shift away from the U.S. toward ASEAN, the EU, and Belt and Road markets is likely to continue. Ostwald notes that Europe faces significant challenges in staying competitive- particularly when it comes to energy costs and technological development. He also highlights a broader transition from lower-cost goods to higher-value products in global trade, with China increasingly dominating the high-end manufacturing space. Weak investment in manufacturing in both the EU and the US, he adds, is further accelerating this rebalancing trend.
