State of Emergency in Victoria.
An unstoppable force is burning across Victoria, with the threat escalating in New South Wales.

More than 130 buildings have been destroyed for a second day by bushfires across Victoria, Australia, and that number is expected to rise as some fires remain uncontained, as of Saturday, January 10, 2026, afternoon.
A state of emergency has been declared for 18 fire-affected areas across the state, and a state of disaster has been declared, officials said.

On Friday evening, Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan declared a state of emergency.
“This declaration gives our authorities additional powers to deal with an emergency of exceptional scale and danger.
Tonight, we have reached that level of danger,” she said.

A total fire ban is in place across Victoria as the devastating bushfire crisis continues, with fast-spreading grass fires continuing to burn through the city.

Three people previously reported missing have now been found safe from the Longwood fire.
Previously, three people, believed by authorities to be a woman, a man, and a child who were missing, were confirmed as three adults.

According to Victorian Emergency Management Commissioner Tim Wiebusch, at least 130 structures have been destroyed so far.
However, that is a conservative figure, and we expect the number could be higher.

The fires have caused "significant impacts on livestock and agriculture."
Around 50 structures have been destroyed in Ravenswood and Harcourt, while around 30 have been destroyed in Longwood.
He concluded that some of the bushfires were sparked by lightning, but the cause of those fires will be investigated.

Firefighting authorities are on high alert as much of Australia is experiencing a heatwave.
A Victorian fire official stated that, "Wind speeds are also increasing, and that's the most concerning thing."
"If a new fire breaks out this afternoon, it will be difficult to control and extinguish in these weather conditions, so we're asking the public to remain vigilant."
The bushfires in Victoria are expected to burn for "days, even weeks."

Prime Minister Allan has confirmed that more than 300,000 hectares of land have been burned and 38,000 homes and businesses have lost power.
