Chaos in New York Today! Extreme Snow Storm Causing Many Accident in Oswego

In early January 2026, Oswego County, New York, experienced one of the most extreme snowstorms in the region's history. In just a few days, snow fell with incredible intensity, covering homes, vehicles, and roadways to a depth of over five feet. This was no ordinary snowfall, but a lake-effect snowstorm, formed when cold Arctic air met the relatively warm waters of Lake Ontario. This process created a band of snow that settled over Oswego County, producing a continuous and almost uninterrupted snowfall, leaving the community in a state of emergency for a long time. From the first day of the storm, residents in small towns like Lacona, Richland, and Orwell reported that their doors were no longer visible due to snowdrifts as tall as an adult. Some even had to dig small tunnels to escape their homes. Major roads like Route 104 and Interstate 81 were completely paralyzed, with vehicles stranded in the snow. Schools, government offices, and businesses were forced to close, while local authorities issued warnings urging residents to stay indoors for their safety. These conditions had a significant impact on daily life. Power outages in several areas occurred due to cables being crushed by heavy snow and strong winds. Roofs of homes and commercial buildings were under tremendous pressure, posing a risk of collapse. Emergency services such as ambulances and firefighters had difficulty reaching the area due to snow-covered roads. Some volunteer firefighters even reported being unable to exit their own homes due to being trapped two meters deep in snow.
