Mudflows have washed away a town in Southern California

Reviews of weather events, natural disasters, astronomical phenomena and wildlife around the world

California continues to suffer from a series of powerful winter storms, bringing torrential rains, flooding, and mudslides. Following in Northern California, heavy rains triggered flash floods and mudslides in San Bernardino County.
According to authorities, at least two people have died.
The most critical situation is currently unfolding in counties devastated by wildfires earlier this year. In the mountain resort community of Wrightwood (San Bernardino County), mud and rocks have washed onto roads, trapping people in cars and homes. Firefighters have carried out rescue operations, instituting evacuation orders and "shelter in place" orders. Similar measures have been taken in Lytle Creek and areas affected by severe fires in Orange County.

In the northern part of the state, high wind and flood warnings are in effect, while in the Sierra Nevada region, there is heavy snowfall, near-zero visibility, and avalanche danger is high near Lake Tahoe. The Governor of California declared a state of emergency in six counties, and emergency services have been deployed. Approximately 158,000 homes and businesses across the state are without power.
