Director’s Quote:
When my neighbour Oisín from Amble contacted me about this beautiful track written about our hometown I felt an instant sense of excitement, duty and responsibility.

This film for “The Rarest Hour” is a deeply personal tribute to the town of Enniscrone in the west of Ireland, created from decades-old footage captured by my late father, Tommy Battle who passed away suddenly in October.

Filmed throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, the video unfolds, revealing the rhythms of small-town life and the quiet beauty of a community moving at its own pace.

I wanted each frame to carry the warmth, texture, and innocence of an era now past, one preserved through the lens of a man who saw value in documenting the everyday.

More than a nostalgic look back, I wanted the film to honour the generational threads that shape identity, memory, and belonging.

Children playing in the streets, neighbours gathering, familiar faces at local events—all come together to form a moving reminder of how deeply people were once woven into one another’s lives.

“The Rarest Hour” arrives at a time when many feel the loss of that collective closeness.

By sharing these intimate home-movie moments, we invite viewers not only to remember what once was, but to reflect on what remains worth preserving.

The Rarest Hour stands as a celebration of community, a tribute to a quiet legacy, and a call to recognise the enduring value of the places and people who shape us.

Lyrics:
On a worn path
Marred by squalor
Shared a long laugh
By the water
Through the marram grass
Sounds of Summer
I watched
The Sun fall to the Sea
And those I grew up with
All around me
The names I remember
Etched in sand
And the tide tumblin’ over
To greet them
Call it Summer
Call it Winter
In my hands
On a spurred thought
In The Rarest Hour
I gazed upon
The old bell tower
My mind adrift
The clouds in shower
I sat beneath
The cross and watched the dawn
And those I grew up with
All around me
The names I remember
Etched in sand
And the tide tumblin’ over
To greet them
Call it Summer
Call it Winter
In my hands
Took a stroll down
To the rock beach
Left the storm raging on
In my wake
How the cold gale threw me
Into slumber
My mind drifting lowly
On the wavesAnd those I grew up with
All around me
The names I remember
Etched in sand
And the tide tumblin’ over
To greet them
Call it Summer
Call it Winter
In my hands
Call it Summer
Call it Winter
In my hands
