Russia Files Lawsuit Against Euroclear as Italy Joins Belgium Against EU Plan

Russia has filed a lawsuit against Euroclear in a Moscow court. This comes after the EU has adopted a legal mechanism to keep the Russian assets frozen indefinitely and the EU commission has been invested with emergency powers. Italy, Belgium, Malta and Bulgaria have expressed their concern over the current EU plan for the use of frozen Russian assets and have put this concern in a letter. FT has reported on a specific clause which exists in Ukraine’s revision of the US Peace Plan and that is Ukraine would have to join the EU by 1st of January of 2027.
