Catastrophic flooding in the US Northwest

Reviews of weather events, natural disasters, astronomical phenomena and wildlife around the world

Severe flooding has hit the northwestern United States as a result of a powerful storm and the effects of a so-called "atmospheric river." The situation is most serious in Washington state, where rescuers are conducting large-scale evacuations and river levels are rising rapidly.
The worst flooding was reported in Chehalis, where residents were evacuated by boat and rescued from flooded homes.
Flooding was also reported in Napavine, where cars were partially submerged. The city of Snohomish has declared a state of emergency and evacuated the mobile home area along the Snohomish River. In Auburn, temporary levee construction is underway along the White River.
The Skagit River in Concrete is particularly alarming, with forecasters predicting record flood levels in the coming days.
In Oregon, the storm also caused serious consequences, but the situation is more localized. Road flooding, power outages, and school closures have been reported in various areas of the state.
