Sarah’s Oil Movie Review – A Powerful Story Buried by Bad Marketing

Sarah’s Oil tells the true story of Sarah Rector — a young Black girl in early 1900s Indian Territory who discovers oil beneath her barren land and becomes one of the first Black female millionaires in America. Starring Naya Desire Johnson and Zachary Levi, this film explores greed, racism, and resilience in a world built to take everything from her.

In this review, I talk about why I thought this movie would just be okay… and why I ended up loving it. From the strong performances to the tight pacing and emotional storytelling, Sarah’s Oil deserves way more recognition than it’s getting.
