From the streets of Houston to New Orleans, DJ Estien gives his first fan-based 2025, Volume 1. mixtape, tribute to legendary Uptown artists in this music video. Signaling a special debut mixtape to Soulja Slim (R.I.P.) & friends from that NOLA. Soulja Slim, who also features on this mixtape remix song “Bout Dis $hyt,” that appeared on Soulja Slim’s album in 2001 “The Streets Made Me,” & with a cut-throat uncut version from DJ Estien on the other remixed song “Niggas Don’t Understand,” which was also on B.G.’s original album (1996) “Chopper City,” giving the mixtape a conjunction & special recognition to both artists. Lil Soulja Slim, Soulja Slim’s son, also carries his dad’s torch and legacy, who’s also a real rapper.
Chopper City is the original studio album by American rapper B.G., released in 1996 on Cash Money Records. It is B.G.’s first solo release, after previously releasing the album True Story as a member of the duo B.G.’z alongside Lil Wayne in 1995. Chopper City is credited to “The BGs,” but Lil Wayne makes no contribution, and B.G. is the sole lead artist. The album features guest appearances from Bun B, Big Tymers, Juvenile, and Mac, amongst others. Mannie Fresh produced the album in its entirety.
The album helped establish Southern rap on a global scale, with “Bling Bling” becoming a major hit and a symbol of the bounce music movement.
“Chopper City” is a nickname for the Uptown area of New Orleans where B.G. grew up.
The original Chopper City album, B.G.’s Chopper City in the Ghetto, is about his life in Uptown New Orleans, affectionately nicknamed “Chopper City.” It’s an uncensored look at the street life, its dangers, and his maturity beyond his years, cementing Southern rap’s place in the mainstream. Key themes include street encounters, resilience, and living life to the fullest, as represented by the hit single “Bling Bling.”
