MetroTV, Thousands of people marched through Sofia to protest steep tax hikes proposed in Bulgaria’s draft budget for next year. The rally, organized by the opposition coalition "We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria," drew an estimated 20,000 demonstrators expressing concern over higher social security contributions, a doubled dividend tax, and a sharp rise in public debt.
The protest turned tense as demonstrators attempted to block lawmakers’ cars, prompting police intervention and resulting in several injuries. Despite broad opposition, the budget is expected to pass due to the government’s parliamentary majority.
