General N’Tam was sworn in as Guinea-Bissau’s interim president during a brief ceremony guarded by heavily armed soldiers, a day after the coup that ousted President Umaro Sissoco Embaló. N’Tal, believed to have been a close ally of Embaló, now leads what the military calls a new command, after the former president was arrested and detained.
