007: Tomorrow Never Dies PS1 (PAL Vers) Real Hardware Playthrough

Here we have the first Bond game to follow up on the legendary Goldeneye 64. Tomorrow Never Dies was EA's first Bond game making this their first Bond PAL port. With this following up on Rare's very well optimised (for the time) PAL port of Goldeneye EA had big expectations to hold up to.

Unfortunately, as was common at the time, Black Ops Entertainment did a poor job with their conversion. Nearly all issues expected from poor PAL Ports of this era are present here. However BOE did adjust Gameplay resolution to correctly scale to the PAL screen size (a rarity of poor ports at the time).

The biggest issue of this port is arguably the game speed. Whilst online sources claim this game was properly speed adjusted for PAL formats my testing concluding that this wasn't at all true. Every test I did resulted in the PAL port being the typical 17% slower that the NTSC version non-speed adjusted ports face.

Technical notes (Gameplay):
-Gameplay runs at a resolution of (512x256 17p) apposed to the NTSC resolution of (512x240 20p).
-Gameplay is not speed adjusted for the PAL format making it 17% slower than the NTSC Version.
-Gameplay/HUD is correctly scaled to fit the PAL screen size.

Technical notes (FMV’s):
-Both PAL and NTSC FMV's run at a resolution of (320x240 15p) but they are not correctly scaled to the PAL screen size meaning the are vertically squished in the PAL version.
-FMV's are 15fps in both PAL and NTSC, this leads to judder at 50hz (PAL) with frame alternating between being held 3/4 refreshes a second (the NTSC version holds frames until every 4th refresh).

Technical notes (Menu's):
-Menu elements run at a resolution of (640x256 50p) apposed to the NTSC resolution of (640x240 60p).
-Menu's are not correctly scaled to fit the PAL screen size leading to them being vertically squished.
