How to Connect Xbox Wireless headset to PC (Pairing Tutorial)

You can pair an Xbox Wireless Controller to a PC using either Bluetooth or the Xbox Wireless Adapter by turning on pairing mode on the controller and following your PC’s device setup to complete the connection.

Step 1 — Check Compatibility
Ensure your PC runs Windows 10 (Anniversary Update or later) or Windows 11

Confirm your controller supports Bluetooth (Xbox One S, Xbox Series X/S, or later models). Older controllers without Bluetooth require the Xbox Wireless Adapter

Make sure your PC’s Bluetooth is functional or that you have a free USB port for the Wireless Adapter.

Step 2 — Update PC and Controller
Update Windows to the latest version to ensure Bluetooth drivers are current.
Open the Xbox Accessories app (available from Microsoft Store) to check for available controller firmware updates. Use a USB connection to update firmware before pairing wirelessly

Step 3 — Enable Pairing Mode on the Controller
Press the Xbox button to turn on the controller.

Press and hold the Pair button on the controller (located near the USB port on Xbox One/S controllers or top between LB and RB on Xbox Series controllers) for about 3 seconds until the Xbox light blinks rapidly

Step 4a — Pair via Bluetooth
On PC, go to Start Settings Bluetooth & devices Add device Bluetooth.
Wait for the Xbox Wireless Controller to appear in the list and select it.
Once selected, the Xbox button will stay solid, confirming a successful connection

Step 4b — Pair via Xbox Wireless Adapter
Plug the Xbox Wireless Adapter into a USB port on your PC. The LED should blink to indicate readiness.

Turn on the controller and put it in pairing mode (flashing Xbox light).
Press the Pair button on the adapter. Once connected, the controller’s Xbox button stays solid
