How I fixed Firefox the bookmarks and history system will not be functional error

I can't guarantee this fix will work for you but it worked well for me. This is related to the error "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem."

I tried some of the different fixes I found online but they didn't work for me. This is what I did to fix my Firefox profile:

1: Close firefox.
2: Hit the Windows + R key to open runbox
3: Type %APpDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ in the run box and click ok
4: Make a backup copy of your default user folder you are using.
5: Open your user folder and find "places.sqlite"
6: Change "places.sqlite" file extension by adding .old to the end
7: Open Firefox
8: Close Firefox
9: Go back to Firefox default user folder from step 3 & 4
10: Delete the new "places.sqlite" Firefox created
11: Remove .old extension from the "places.sqlite.old" file you renamed so it is back to being "places.sqlite".


Firefox profiles location:
%APpDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

Alternate solution that worked for @TheOkThx
"For me just charging the file name extension to .old at the end fixed it, when I tried to do the rest it unfixed it again. So I did it again and just changed the extension to .old and now I'm good, not gonna touch anything else for now xD thank you"

Apparently CCleaner is one of the more common ways to break Firefox like this. I would avoid using the program personally.12: Open Firefox back up while doing a prayer and ritual sacrifice hoping your problem is fixed 😹
