Seen from across the city, thick smoke billowed Wednesday morning from a multiple-alarm commercial building fire on Newkirk Street in Southeast Baltimore. Baltimore City Fire Chief James Wallace said the fire was called in around 10:42 a.m. at the Gold Bond Building Products facility, which manufactures drywall and gypsum board. The fire was contained by the afternoon and brought under control around 2 p.m.
