Severn packaging company turns to inmates for reliable employees

A Maryland company is filling a need and providing opportunities by hiring inmates at its packaging plant in Severn. Atlas Container Corp., which makes boxes, is really thinking outside of the box by hiring inmates through a work-release program. Atlas was having trouble hiring and retaining reliable employees, so CEO Paul Centenari said he turned to the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services' work-release program.
